Problems persist for BlackBerry around the world
San Francisco – Users of Research in Motion’s popular BlackBerry smartphones in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and India suffered serious disruptions in service for a second day Tuesday, even after the Canada-based company said it had resolved the glitch.
‘Some users in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, India, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina are experiencing messaging and browsing delays,’ RIM said in a statement. ‘We are working to restore normal service as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.’
The disruptions have heaped more trouble on RIM, which has seen its shares slide precipitously as its once market-dominating devices have been left in the dust of the iPhone and other competing products powered by Google’s Android operating system.
The problems appeared to centre on accessing the internet, email, instant messaging and roaming. Reports blamed the disruptions on problems the company was experiencing at data centers in Britain and Canada.
